“I don’t want to worry anymore”.

“I want to be stress free”.

These are a couple things I would tell myself regularly. I never understood why I was constantly feeling stressed and worried. So many external factors were hindering my happiness and peace of mind. When I had felt like I was reaching my breaking point, I knew something had to change. I decided to sit back and really dissect my thoughts, what is making me feel this way?

Then I realized that the only time I had these unpleasant feelings, is right after I had thought about something stressful or worrisome. Sounds obvious I know, but it’s true. It’s really that easy to train yourself to think about what you WANT to think about. Therefore, improving your overall mindset which will translate into a positive outlook on life.

Our minds love patterns, so choose 3 thoughts you want to have every day. Thoughts that make you feel happy, determined and overall just make you feel positive. If you do this daily, soon they will happen naturally. Replacing all the negativity that was consuming you every day. Remember, our brains are essentially just another muscle. You can train it just like any other muscle in your body.

Nothing and nobody can make you feel any type of way. In the end, you have chosen to feel like this. Now, if you don’t know exactly how your mind works .. you will never be able to identify what needs changing. Time for the big question .. “Okay yes I get it, but how do I actually understand my mind?” I will start off by saying it’s not easy. It takes a lot of patience and you must be open to the process.

The answer is .. Meditation! (Shocking, I know) hear me out though! I was such a skeptic of meditation, how is sitting in silence going to help me? The whole concept was ridiculous to me. Although, once I opened my mind to the idea, and really took it seriously .. I was amazed by the effects it had on me.

You are really able to shut down all thoughts and focus on how certain things are making you feel at that very moment. Once I kept this up daily, I was so much more in touch with my emotions. I was able to filter all of my thoughts throughout the day and shut down all negativity.

Before I started this whole process, I did an exercise that I want you to try as well. Every day for 1 week, I wrote down EVERY negative thought I had. Then, the following week I wrote down EVERY positive thought I had. At the end of the 2 weeks, I went through and highlighted the ones I had the most often. You don’t realize how often you think about certain things, it was definitely quite surprising.

It was by far one of the hardest activities I had ever done. However, this is how I truly understood how my mind operated on a daily basis. Which made it incredibly easy to flip the switch and start on the road to a healthy, clear and happy mind.

In the next week I challenge you to do this as well! Please note that even though I found this extremely helpful. It may not work for you, and that’s okay! Bettering yourself is all about trial and error, and I would love to hear different methods you have tried as well!

We’re here to learn from each other and grow into the best versions of ourselves!
